La Jolla Scripps Beach Family Photos | Jessica + Justin

As a La Jolla family portrait photographer, there are so many beautiful locations to choose from for backdrops! There are the beaches, meadows, parks, city life and more! When booking out of town clients, they will most likely like to schedule their session at the beach. Destination family portraits are a great way to remember that family vacation! In these La Jolla Scripps Beach Family Photos | Jessica + Justin brought their 2 kids for an enjoyable trip to Southern California!

There are some great tips to prepare for your family portrait shoot. Once the location is booked, then you can start picking out outfits. It is important to know your backdrop and what colors to expect so you can choose colors for your outfits that will contrast or complement well. I always suggest choosing 2-3 colors and then working with different shades of that color. If someone wants to wear a print, only one person should for every 4-5 people.

If you have young kids, I would wait to dress them until you arrive to the shoot location. You don’t want to risk getting crumbs or spilling any drinks on the photo outfits. Give yourselves some time to arrive early and park so you can calmly change them into their outfits. This will also help alleviate stress and have you in a great mood before the start of your session. If you want to take it a step forward, you can always pack a back up outfit too.

Locations with distractions for kids is always a great idea! The more trees or rocks to climb, the better! It’s a great way to get the kids to burn energy! Also, a great way to get those awesome candid photos too! When shooting near water, wait till the end of the session to do anything involving water. You don’t want their clothes to get wet and have splash marks everywhere. So keep them on dry land until then!
