In previous grad portraits, I have had grads bring their parents, their partner and their friends. Hannah was the first to bring her dog! It was so fun having a dog in the shoot. I have a dog too, so I will always be open to having your dog or dogs in the shoot. When having a dog in your session, I always like to mix it up. I want some of the shots with the dog and some without. That way you have a great variety to choose from!
When shooting grad portraits, let your client know that the photos can be a mix of outfit with cap and gown outfit and in-between. Some can be full cap and gown. If they don’t want to mess up their hair or don’t want to wear the cap, they can hold it. Also, if they don’t want to feel like they are wearing a potato sack, they can leave the gown open. There is no right or wrong way. There is only their preference. It is important to let them know that they have options so they don’t think they have to wear the whole ensemble the entire time.
