Sunset Cliffs Family Photos | Forrest + Danielle

As a San Diego family photographer, there are so many beautiful beaches to choose from for your family portraits. I always like to ask my clients if they have any preference on a particular beach. When they are open to suggestions, I like to ask the age of their children to make sure the beach is kid friendly too! In these Sunset Cliffs Family Photos | Forrest + Danielle wanted rocks and cliffs in their backdrop. With their kids being older, I felt comfortable photographing them there. Had their kids been younger, I would have advised other beaches, although I have had young kids at sunset cliffs.

When choosing your color palette for your outfits at the beach, I like to suggest red/pinks/burgundy and denim, light blue, light gray. These offer nice contrast and complimentary colors for this kind of backdrop. It was a gloomy day, so the colors popped even more! There were bits of sunshine that would come through, so we were fortunate! Now once you choose your colors, I would say two or three, then you can dress in shades of that color.

A plus about having your family portraits during the summer season is that you can also have your kids senior portraits taken as well! A bonus, is when they have their friends come on the trip, like these had, and get photos with your childhood friends! I would suggest adding more time to the session if you want to accommodate for this to make sure you have enough time and don’t feel rushed.

When shooting at the beach, I would suggest bringing a brush or comb. That sea breeze is a real thing and your hair can start to frizz. If you are prone to frizzing, I would highly suggest you bring it along. Other things to bring are a lint roller, although your photographer might already have one. A blanket, for sitting shots. This way, if you are in a dusty, sandy place, your clothes stay clean!
