San Diego Backyard Wedding | Yaz + Mike
2020 has certainly been filled with ups and downs and the wedding industry certainly felt the downs. The ups though, are that couples are still moving forward with weddings, albeit with changes. Some San Diego wedding couples opted for courthouse ceremonies, and bigger parties next year while others reduced the size of their wedding and did ceremony and intimate reception in one day as was done here, in these San Diego Backyard Wedding | Yaz + Mike.

I started the day shooting the groom with his 2 closest friends and parents. The color pink became the theme and coincidentally there was a pink vintage looking truck in the driveway so of course I had to shoot them there. I wanted to take that truck with me for the whole day, but unfortunately it wasn’t movable. We made the best of it with the getting ready portraits and they turned out great! The three of them used to be in a band together so we basically channeled the cover album of their reunion tour!

From the groom’s home I went over to the bride’s home where she was getting ready and where the ceremony and reception was going to be. I went ahead and took some shots as she finished her hair and makeup. Then it was time for the zipping of the dress. They had this beautiful wall with a statement mirror and brick wall backdrop. It was perfect so we shot it there. I was about to get some natural indoor light. Her dress was absolutely stunning!!!! It is by Demetrios. A classic beauty!!

Did you get as emotional as I did when seeing the groom tear up and get emotional himself!! I had to hold it together during the ceremony. This couple has so much love for one another and they were so eager and excited to get married that they and all of us were just flooded with emotions! The ceremony was followed by a quick reception with some toasts and bites to eat. Of course a beautiful wedding cake too!

Ceremony started late, so we were chasing the light for their formal portraits. We drove out about 20 min out from ceremony site to a reservoir in Otay Mesa. It is an area with lots of trees and a lake, perfect for their nature backdrop. They are naturals in front of the camera and since we had done their engagement photos they felt more comfortable in front of the camera.
