Scripps Pier  Family Photos | Robin + Rob

Sometimes I forget that I should check the surf report. It was high tide for these family photos: Scripps Pier, La Jolla. On top of that it was cloudy! We went along with it and got our feet wet and guess what, the sun came out!! Of course this always goes smoothly when your couple is super laid back, fortunately my clients always are 🙂 Thank you universe!

A past client of mine had referred me to this family. I am always so grateful when I get referrals because it means people do like my stuff. Their son was super excited to get to play in the water! Note: when shooting children, always keep them engaged in something that entertains them and use that as your inspiration for photos! Happy child = smiling child = HAPPY PARENTS!

He was like a fish in the water! He didn’t want to get out! Now, it wasn’t always rainbows and unicorns. There were times when he would get upset, but hey, that’s normal. Don’t let that discourage you during a shoot. Just let them cry it out for a second and then just distract them with something to look at and the tears will disappear! In this case it was putting on the shoes or playing in the water 😉 Sometimes photographers get intimidated or frustrated when shooting toddlers or babies, but you have to remember that it is normal behavior. Once you accept that, then you will expect it and you can just laugh it off knowing it is temporary. A temporary tantrum if you will.

I love doing one on one portraits with the kids and each parent. You get to see each special bonding moment. I feel that is what parenting is all about. Bonding and sharing the world with your little loved ones!

[…] Last time I photographed this family’s portraits they were only 3 and now they are 4! FAMILY photos: Scripps Beach, now includes a little baby girl! I had suggested we shoot at a different San Diego location but my client thought it would be fun to shoot at the same location as the previous shoot. […]
