UCSD Grad Photos | RD
As a UCSD grad photographer, it’s fun to take the same location and see if from different angles. Many students at UCSD always request to have their portraits taken at Geisel Library. It’s such an iconic landmark that it makes sense. Every time I go to shoot there, I try to find a different angle to shoot from. Different times of the day help and even time of the year. I sometimes get requests for winter grad portraits. The sun hits it different depending on the time of the year. In these UCSD Grad Photos | RD, we shot in the spring time. Usually we get hit with the May Gray and June Gloom. Sometimes we get lucky with bursts of sunshine.

For your grad portraits feel free to choose what you want to wear for your outfit. It’s can be business casual or a cute fun dress. The choice is yours. You don’t always have to wear the cap and gown. You can wear them for a few shots and then hold the cap. Or just wear the stoles. Or you can do some in your outfit too. Also take advantage of this time to request a headshot. Some of you are heading off to the workforce and will need a photo for your LinkedIn. Make sure to wear something you want for that headshot.

Make sure to prep before your grad portrait session. Take the gown out of the bag and steam or iron it. Whatever is best for the material. Many times, students wait till right before the session to open them up and they can have creases. I would steam everything, gown and stoles beforehand and hang everything on a hanger in a garment bag. This will make your life was easier! Also, make sure your shoes are comfortable or that you have broken them in. Many campuses have a lot of walking and you don’t want to get blisters in the middle of the shoot!
