As a San Diego elopement photographer, I have seen a rise in elopements and San Diego micro weddings. What is a micro wedding? What is an elopement? It is when the focus remains on the couple. There are at most, 20 guests or less. There isn’t a rush to go through all the activities on a timeline. It is a relaxing two to three hour session, where you capture the ceremony, family photos and the couple wedding portraits. In this The Wedding Bowl at Cuvier Park, La Jolla Elopement Photos | Lilly + David, came down from Los Angeles and brought their immediate family and close friends to celebrate!

Southern California elopements are a sure win! With so much natural beauty along the coast or inland, you know you will be surrounded by greatness! Having a micro weddings or an elopement, you are able to add a destination to your big day if you want to. You can look at an elopement as a documented honeymoon. If there is a place you have always wanted to go, whether for your honeymoon or a trip, you can turn it into your elopement destination!

When booking these elopements and micro weddings, I would encourage a 2-3 hour session. The first 30 min are for the guest arrival and ceremony. Followed by friends and family photos. Then ending with the fun formal wedding couple portraits! Do let your clients know that they can add coverage time. Especially on the front end, if they want the getting ready part documented as well.

Just because it is an elopement or micro wedding, doesn’t mean your whole day should not be documented. Every part is just as important, regardless of how many people are attending. So let them know that the day coverage is flexible. Some people have a dinner somewhere at a restaurant. They may ask you to document it. Again, let them know whatever they would like covered is an option.

Photo tip for photographing at La Jolla Cove, I would have the bride bring sandals to change in to. The terrain can get a little challenging if stiletto heels are involved. Switching to sandals makes for a smoother session. You want this to be effortless for them.
