San Diego Japanese Friendship Garden Proposal | AK

As a San Diego engagement and proposal photographer, the beach is usually where I get most interest for. There are a few inquiries though that have interest in proposing at the San Diego Japanese Friendship Garden. The great thing about the Japanese Friendship Garden is that for the majority of the year it looks the same. Green and lush, with a beautiful stream that runs down the middle. In the fall there are some trees that lend themselves to change colors. In the winter, those leaves do fall. Spring time means some of those cherry blossoms are in full swing! But safe to bet, the backdrop is always photo ready! In these San Diego Japanese Friendship Garden Proposal | AK, you can see the start of some of the cherry blossoms.

There are two ways to go about proposing at the Japanese Friendship Garden. First you can reserve the garden ahead of opening time and have the entire place to yourself. That means the time would be from nine to ten in the morning. You enter through the back gate and there is parking right next to the gate. The other way is by proposing during park hours. So you don’t get anything blocked off and you basically wait for an opening when there aren’t any people walking by. Both work just fine and I have photographed both options. Whichever way you want to go, you still have to reach out to the office to get a permit. Please do this first to make sure your desired date is available.

If your goal is to propose on the bridge and avoid worrying about crowds, then you can opt for the first option. It does cost more though. If you are on a budget, you can pick a time of day where the park isn’t as busy and of course, a weekday is better for crowds! Time of the year also plays a factor. Summertime has more tourists and thus more crowds at the park. Even when there are crowds though, you can patiently wait on the bridge until there is a lull and then propose. If that is going to add stress, then treat yourself to having the park all by yourself.
