As a San Diego family photographer, this time of the year brings a lot of families out for their fall family photos! I love getting to see some of the same families, year after year! A lot of them grow and add more to their family! It’s also fun to change up the locations for their family portraits or keep the tradition too. The great thing about fall family photos in San Diego is that it feels like summer! So if you want to show off your winter to your east coast friends, definitely consider the beach. Selecting outfits for your San Diego fall family portraits can feel very overwhelming! Don’t worry, everyone feels this! I always suggest to pick three colors and work within those shades of colors. So for example, here they picked burgundy/pink, black and blue. So the light pink and burgundy is working within the shade of red. Then blue denim and navy blue. Lastly black. It makes for a cohesive look without being too matchy matchy. Other families like to pick one person’t outfit and then work around that. Always feel free to reach out to your photographer for feedback on outfits. They can let you know what will and won’t photograph well.
Sunset sessions do have that extra spark of magic, but if your children are better in the morning, then always opt for kids preference. It’s better to have happy kids than tired and restless ones. If you start early enough in the morning, you can still get great lighting.
