As a San Diego engagement photographer, I love seeing the excitement in couples eyes. For many it’s their first time getting professional photos together. They may be a little nervous about being in front of the camera. This is what makes being a photographer fun! You get to help ease your clients nerves and make them feel comfortable with themself and their loved one. It can be intimidating to get all cute and cuddly with your partner, in front of the camera with a stranger! So before anything else, it’s important to build rapport and trust with your clients. I will never get tired of photographing at Balboa Park. There are so many diverse backdrops that you don’t have enough time to shoot them all in a day. Plus, it can be seasonal too. In the spring time, there is a plethora of cherry blossoms and other blooming flowers and plants nearby. That in and of itself is a beautiful backdrop! Morning light or late afternoon light can give you different moods and lighting situations depending on where you are. It’s always a great idea familiarize yourself with locations and how they change throughout the day.
As this might be your client’s first time getting professional photos taken, let them know that you are there to help in any way. This can even include pre shoot prep like wardrobe. Feel free to let your clients know that they can send you photos of the outfits they plan on wearing. This way you can advise them if you think they will suit the backdrops. You can even make suggestions from the beginning, so they can search for outfits in case they want to get new ones for the shoot. What better excuse, right?!
