Pacific Beach Family Photos | CM

As a San Diego family photographer, I get an influx of family portraits in the fall. People prepare for their holiday cards. Luckily, you don’t have to stress about getting your family photos done at the end of the year, in San Diego, the weather is great all year round that you can have them taken at any time. Unless you specifically want that fall look of course. Most families do opt for the beach, so might as well get them done earlier and check if off your holiday list. In these Pacific Beach Family Photos | CM, chose the beautiful Tourmaline beach as their backdrop in the morning family session.

Usually photo sessions are done in the later afternoon, during what’s called “magic hour”. It’s the hour before sunset when the light isn’t as bright. When it comes to families with young children though, I alway heed with what’s the best time for them. Meaning, when are they the happiest and full of energy. The late evening can make kids tired and an over tired toddler won’t be as excited to get his or her photo taken. So although morning sessions aren’t always the ideal, you can make it work by starting super early in the morning.

The ideal origin time would be the first hour after sunrise, but that isn’t alway easy. Especially when families have to get their kids ready. So the sooner in the morning the better! If anything 8 or 9 am. We were banking on an overcast morning, but the clouds broke as soon as we started shooting. The cliffs helped blocked the sun. For some shots, you just have to work the angles so your clients don’t have to stare directly into the sunlight. Work with your surroundings.
