Mission Beach Family Photos | CB

As a San Diego family photographer, the summertime is filled with family portraits from out of towners. San Diego is definitely a vacation destination spot and many families choose this time to do their holiday card or at least their family photos. For some families, it’s the one time a year that they get together and do a family trip together. What better way to remember that than with a family portrait session! As you have seen in my work, I tend to shoot a lot at Scripps Beach or La Jolla Cove, those coastlines are stunning! Mission Beach is a bit too crowded for me, but when my client stays there, it’s easier to get me there than the whole family together to another spot! We utilize both the bay and beach side of Mission Beach.

WIt’s nice to see families doing their portraits with their adult children. It feels like once kids are in middle or high school, the family portrait tradition starts to wean off. It’s nice when families continue the tradition and then it starts expanding into bigger family portrait sessions! Sometimes families do it when their kids are in high school too, cause this way they can get cool senior portraits taken as well! Especially when traveling for college visits. It’s a vacation and college tour in one!

It’s fair to say that your high school kid will most likely not be into getting their family photo taken. No problem! Just do a couple group shots and then spend the rest of the time getting couple portraits with your significant other! Enjoy some portraits of yourself too. You can do all sorts of combinations during your session. You may have one kid who is into the idea of getting a nice portrait and participate in some for themselves. So don’t feel like the entire session has to be family photos!
