La Jolla Shores Beach Family Photos | C + C
As a La Jolla family photographer, it’s great that we can photograph at the beach at any time of the year! While some families request all foliage, others request blue waters and white sands! Depending on how blue you want the water depends on what time you book your session. If you are on the west coast then this applies to you, if you are on the east coast, then it’s the opposite. For super blue waters, on a clear sky day of course, then you would book in the morning. The only downside is that the sun will be in your eyes. To avoid burning your irises, book as early as you can in the morning. In these La Jolla Shores Beach Family Photos | C + C booked a morning session.

When shooting at the beach around sunset, and it’s sunny, you get a more light blue/yellow sky as your backdrop. Wherever the sun is, the light is brighter and less blue. On the positive side, the sun is not in your face. The way to work around getting a more blue sky is by shooting from a side angle. Shooting in the morning might work better for the kids nap schedules. Ideally though, shooting within the hour or two within sunrise is ideal for morning shoots. The earlier the better when there is no shade coverage like the beach.

Usually I shoot at Scripps Beach, so it was refreshing to photograph next door at La Jolla Shores Beach. When the tide is super low, you get exposed to some tide pools on the furthers south spot on the beach. Right in front of the Marine Room. On this day the tide wasn’t as low, so we weren’t able to explore more of that area. We do get better views of La Jolla Cove though versus photographing at Scripps Beach.

The back up plan to add more diverse backdrops was to photograph them in front of the palm trees at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Then we used the beautiful mosaic tile at the La Jolla Shores Beach Hotel for another backdrop option. The bonus is that it’s shaded in the morning!
