Mission Beach Family Photos | C + A

As a San Diego family photographer, I love when previous wedding clients come back for their maternity photo sessions and then their family photo sessions! I love seeing their families grow and evolve! A big milestone for new families is celebrating their child’s first birthday! Many families like to celebrate it with a family photo session. Some bring a cake or balloons to use as props. What better way to finish a family shoot than with a cake smash! Key word is FINISH, you don’t want to start with a cake smash! In these Mission Beach Family Photos | C + A celebrated their little one’s first birthday with some fun balloons and cake! They wanted a park feel, so we decided on Bonita Cove in Mission Beach. It has fun pink swings and the bay is right there too, that makes for kid friends water pics!

Whenever photographing at the park or beach, weekdays are always encouraged! These are popular places on the weekend and you don’t want to spend the entire time editing on photoshopping people out of the background. So if your clients are up for a weekday, I would highly encourage that! Especially when it’s high tourist season! San Diego gets a lot of visitors in the summertime and that makes for a congested area. So definitely take that into consideration when suggesting a location for your clients. We opted for the bayside instead of beach side to avoid crowds. Also, since the bay is calm, it makes for a very kid friendly water area. Bonus, you don’t have to worry about waves getting their outfits wet!

It’s always a great idea to have a back up outfit in case your little one gets one dirty. I would always wait till you arrive to your shoot location to change them into their photoshoot look. This helps avoid snack car spills!
