UCSD Grad Portrait Photos | VG
As a UCSD grad portrait photographer, I love when students celebrate their success with props! Whether they decorate their caps, have a variety of stols, flowers or balloons! That is not to say that you need extra props for your session. Your cap and gown is fine. In fact you don’t even need to wear the entire cap and gown ensemble. If you feel like it’s too bulky, you can leave the gown open and wear a cute outfit underneath. You can also just wear your suit or dress and wear the stols and hold the cap. There are a bunch of different variations, your photographer will help you assess. In these UCSD Grad Portrait Photos | VG, she brought a couple fun props to work with. A bouquet of flowers and a cluster of balloons! She used the UCSD colors in her balloons.

As you can see from the photos, she opted for a longer portrait session to add a second location. Most grad students like to add Scripps Beach to their session. It’s so close and who doesn’t love some photos at the beach! We actually shot this in the morning. Less crowds both on campus and at the beach. The closer you get to actual graduation date, the more students you will see on campus getting their grad portraits taken. I would suggest you either book super early or wait til after graduation. Have your photo taken during finals can be stressful.

Another good reason to book earlier is that you will get the spring sunshine. May and June are known for their gray weather. So there is a high chance to get overcast weather. It’s not a terrible thing, you just won’t get that sunset shine that some people really want. I don’t mind overcast weather at the beach cause then you can pretty much shoot at any time of the day and not worry about the sun in your eyes.
