La Jolla Scripps Beach Maternity Photos | Stephanie + Joel
As a La Jolla Maternity Photographer, I love being able to capture the beauty of life to be on the beach! The beach is such a happy place and what better backdrop for a San Diego maternity session! There are many beaches to choose from in La Jolla and in San Diego. When capturing a maternity session, you always want to choose what is easily accessible for your client. Safety first! In this La Jolla Scripps Beach Maternity Photos | Stephanie + Joel wanted the beach at sunset. They like the pier and for the most part pretty accessible.
Always striving to get low tide at sunset doesn’t always pan out! Especially when you are in may gray and June gloom season. You either choose getting sunlight or low tide. In this case, we went with sunshine and ended up photographing the session during high tide! Something to note, the tides change during the year. Winter time high tides aren’t as high as they are in the summer time. That is why it is always important to note the feet of the tides as well!
The tides are important if you are photographing at beaches with cliffs or narrow beaches. Beaches like Coronado or Mission beach don’t have much impact as there it lots of sand. Places like Sunset Cliffs or Windansea does matter. So keep that in mind and mention it to your clients. That there is a risk the high tide is too much to even be able to photograph there. When they see your work and say they want the same as an example in your portfolio, let them know what the conditions were.
Of course if your clients don’t mind getting their feet a little wet, that helps too! Good thing about summer high tides is that at least the water is warmer!
