La Jolla Scripps Beach Maternity Photos | S + D

As a La Jolla maternity photographer, I love getting to capture this special time in a couples lives! As a recent mom myself, I know first hand what a beautiful experience pregnancy is. What better way to capture it then with a maternity photo session! The beach is a popular backdrop for many parents to be or existing parents. There is something about the waves and sand that makes you feel free and in tune with nature. I myself had my maternity session at the beach too. The great thing about San Diego is that you can pretty much have a beach session all year round. In these La Jolla Scripps Beach Maternity Photos | S + D, I got to celebrate another important milestone in their lives! I had previously captured their San Diego courthouse wedding.

I get two common questions asked when booking a maternity session. What do I wear and when should I book. I think a good starting point is at 7 months. Each woman is different and depending on how many babies you have had or if it’s your first, you could show as early as 7 months or later. So I always say whenever you feel comfortable. You don’t want to wait till the very end when your back is hurting and walking becomes a chore. Especially when you have to walk the beach.

The next important question I get asked a lot is, what do I wear? Truth be told, the tighter, the better! The more the dress hugs your body, the more flattering the baby bump looks. Many times, moms to be might wear a flowy dress, or loose fitting ensemble, thinking that is more flattering. I think it hides the bump and adds more bulk. If you plan on going to the beach, don’t spend so much money on a dress. It’s just going to get wet and sandy! Amazon has a lot of maternity dresses, at affordable prices. One of the dresses I wore was a red high neck from Amazon. I like dresses with a train, they are more dramatic, but they will drag when wet. So keep that in mind.
