As a La Jolla family photographer, I love when clients return year after year. I get to see how their family grows! San Diego has many different backdrops and backgrounds to offer for your family photos. Most people like to default to the beach. Why not, it’s so beautiful! If you enjoy sand in your toes and splashing around the waves, then the beach is definitely for you! Keep in mind that the most optimal day and time to schedule your San Diego family beach photo session is when low tide is at or around sunset. If you are booking a beach where there are tide pools, or rocks and cliffs; then low tide will expose you to the underwater world! Even at Scripps Beach you get a lot of backdrops. It’s not just the beach. There are grassy areas and trees. Your clients may just want beach shots, but do let them know the options they have. When the light is strong at the beginning of the session, I like to start in the back area where the trees are. You also get some nice views from above. So if you are not that familiar with this location, I highly recommend you scout around so you can offer your clients as many different backdrops are possible.
When preparing for your La Jolla Family Beach photo session, always bring a change of clothes. More than likely you are getting your feet wet and maybe a little more. Having a change of outfits for you and your little ones will make the car ride home a lot better! Especially if you have plans afterwards. It’s also a good idea to wait until you arrive to your shoot location to dress your little ones in his or her photo outfit. The car ride can run the risk of getting messy and you want to avoid any crumbs on their clothes. So give yourself some time to get there early and change.
