As a La Jolla family photographer, the beach is definitely a sought out location. There are so many beaches along La Jolla’s coastline as well as San Diego. Some beaches offer even more beauty at particular times of the day. That would be, at low tide! Beaches that have reefs and rocks reveal their tide pools at low tide. There is no mystery though, you can look it up online at a tide calendar. Whenever clients have flexible dates, I guide them through the optimal dates where low tide is at or near sunset. In these La Jolla Scripps Beach Family Photos | C + C went with the lovely Scripps Beach, also known as Scripps Pier. It was both a family shoot and maternity shoot as they welcome their third child!
The beauty of winter in San Diego is that you can still put your feet in the ocean water! If the sun is out, you can go to the beach year round! We all know how lucky we are to live here. If you don’t live here, consider having your family portraits taken while on vacation. It’s a great way to remember a trip and have some fun together. Lean on your photographer to help you with location ideas. They are local to the area and can guide you. Just let them know if you have any preferences or visions and they can inform you on options.
Plan family photo outfits ahead of time. You don’t want to be rushing and scrambling the last minute. The last thing you want is unnecessary stress on photo day. You want to come to the session relaxed and ready to have fun. With young kids, I would have back up outfits planned in case there is a spill or something gets dirty. You can never be too prepared!
