As a La Jolla engagement photographer, I see a spike in proposals around fall and the holidays. The holidays especially as families are gathering to celebrate. What better time than then to share the great news! That doesn’t mean you have to propose in front of your entire family, but you then have something to share shortly thereafter with them. To ensure a smooth proposal, I highly advise meeting with your client ahead of time, at the location, to review the proposal. This helps reduce some of the nerves for the proposer! Don’t worry if your client is from out of town. With our smart phones, you can pretty much video chat with anyone! Worst case scenario, you can make a video for him or her and then have a call to review the video. It is also wise to ask for a photo of the couple so you can spot them from far away. Take it one step further, and ask your client to let you know what they are wearing the day of so you can really spot them from far away!
Another good tip to offer your client is a slim ring box! The traditional ring boxes can be huge and boxy! That doesn’t help when you are trying to have the ring be incognito! Especially when the weather is warm, and you can’t use a jacket to hide it. So have them order a slim ring box ahead of time. You want to make sure the ring fits in the box too! So it’s best they order it early on to avoid any last minute stressors! Slim ring boxes are becoming more popular and common so it shouldn’t be too much trouble to find.
