As a La Jolla maternity photographer, I love being able to capture this special moment at the beach! La Jolla has such beautiful coastlines that, when walking though carefully, is a great backdrop for your pregnancy photo session! To ensure comfort, I would opt for going barefoot during your session. If you can rock a little heel though, then by all means go for it. I would just make sure they are shoes you have already broken in. If you want the toes in your sand, make sure to book your session during the low tide. Some beaches in the summertime get very high, high tides. So make sure to check the tide calendar to confirm that you will be able to walk the beach. This depends on the beach you choose of course. What to wear to your maternity photo session? There are sooo many options out there! First and foremost, choose something that you are going to be comfortable in! If you don’t feel good in your outfit, it will show. I am always a fan of a long, flowy dress. Bonus points if it hugs your baby bump and then gets more loose and flowy towards the end. Colors depend on what colors look good on you and contrast with your backdrop. You don’t want to blend in to your backdrop. Then you can choose your partner’s outfit based on what color you choose.
When should you schedule your maternity session? That can vary from woman to woman. Everyone develops at different speeds. I would say starting at month seven, you can start thinking about booking. As you grow every week, make sure to have clothes in multiple sizes in case you grow out of one or haven’t grown into it yet. Keep tags on until you actually wear the outfit.
