La Jolla Cove Family Photos | C + C
As a La Jolla family photographer, one of my favorite places to photograph at is La Jolla Cove. With such diverse backdrops as the cliffs, rocks, ocean, palm trees and more, it never disappoints! It’s a great location when your clients want an ocean backdrop and it’s high tide because you can stay up on the cliffs. They are definitely more stable than Sunset Cliffs (in my opinion). Also, I feel it’s less frequented, as far as photo sessions go, than Sunset Cliffs. In these La Jolla Cove Family Photos | C + C, brought their daughter with them and had a great sunset family session!
You definitely want to check with your clients if they feel comfortable with the terrain if they have young children. They may prefer a different spot with not as much of a fall should their little one run around too much. Also for maternity, check and see how out and about your client is. I did my maternity shoot here, but I am very familiar with the area. To access the sand, there is a part where you have to go down sandy rocks and they may not feel as comfortable. So remember to always put your clients safety and needs first!
As I always mention, check the tide calendar when booking your photo session appointment with your client. If they have flexibility, you always want to try and have the session booked when low tide is at or near sunset. Especially for beaches like this, all along the La Jolla coast, where the reefs are more exposed at low tide. The closer to low tide the better! Of course, have your back up locations when need be should the dates not coincide. Doesn’t always work when clients are from out of town.
