La Jolla Beach Engagement Proposal | E + J

As a La Jolla engagement photographer, many times I get to participate from the beginning, at the time of the proposal! Proposals are super fun and it’s such a treat to get to see the reaction of someone who is getting proposed to. It’s such a special event in a couple’s life that they were never forget! As photographers, we are so lucky to be surrounded by such great news! With La Jolla’s beautiful coastline, it’s not surprise that many people opt for a beach proposal! In these La Jolla Beach Engagement Proposal | E + J ended the year with king tides and a beautiful sunset! We got lucky and the rain stopped just in time for this magical moment!

Whenever I book a beach session, especially when the clients want to go on the sand, I always check the tide calendar. You don’t want to be surprised and be caught in a high tide and not have the sand accessible to you. This doesn’t happen at beaches like Mission Beach or Coronado, where there is a lot of sand, (except for Mission Beach on a King Tide event). So always make sure to check the tide calendar before confirming the session date, especially with something to planned like a proposal.

When booking a proposal shoot, make sure to at the very least, have a conversation over the phone about the protocol. It’s better if you can meet in person at the proposal location or have a FaceTime. Giving your client a visual and a run down of what should go down will help his or her nerves. The easier you can make it for him or her, the better the experience. Always make sure to get there 15-20 min before the expected proposal time. You want to make sure the location is secure and there are no surprises. If there are, you have enough time for a backup plan.
