ENGAGEMENT photos: Cactus Garden, Balboa Park

It’s always fun to learn about a couple’s journey while you are shooting them. That’s a great way to capture candid moments as they reminisce. It’ even better when you have seen the relationship from the beginning and have been a witness to it yourself! So I was very excited to do one of my really good friends engagement photos at Cactus GardenCactus Garden in Balboa Park! The bride to be loves cactus so I thought this would be the best spot and put them in a familiar environment. The more comfortable they are the easier to shoot 🙂

Don’t worry, the cactus garden doesn’t eat you up! There is a nice trail that takes you through a “cactus trail” if you will. We got there at the famous “magic hour” time. Keeping in mind that my friend is sometimes late, I told her to arrive an hour before. 😉

Now the bride isn’t in to having her photos taken, but once it was happening she admitted it wasn’t bad. Probably due to the fact that we were all cracking jokes the whole time. I think that is the best way to execute a shoot, through laughs 😉

Another great thing to have is couples who don’t take themselves too seriously and aren’t afraid to get a lil dirty! As you can tell, the bride to be is wearing white pants, so I was a little hesitant to ask her to sit on the ground but she had zero problem! This helped me enclose the frame with the cacti.

Throughout the cactus garden there are different areas. So it is a great place to walk around and explore. We found some cacti that were surrounded by flowers. The sunlight was coming through at the precise hour. The sun was GLOWING, the bride + groom were GLOWING!

If you walk a little further, you will come across the ROSE GARDEN. We had a little bit of light left so we literally ran over and tried to chase what little bit of light would shine through before it hid behind Balboa Park.

SO excited to be celebrating their big day this weekend! Cheers to love!
