As a an Encinitas personal branding photographer, I love learning about people’s businesses and creating content to help enhance their message. All the pre production stuff is just as important as the personal branding photo session itself! As corny as it sounds, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Personal branding shoots take some to a lot of prep work. It’s an investment in your business and you want to make sure you are using your time wisely. You want to be able to try out as many outfits and locations as possible. This helps with having content that can last you a quarter, half the year or almost the entire year itself! Why is pre production important? It’s critical to understand your content needs and how you are going to execute on them. Ask yourself, where are these assets (deliverables) going to be placed? Website? Newsletter? Instagram? Etc. This is important because you may need particular images in a particular size or layout. Do you need an image for your website banner? What is the layout of your newsletter going to be? Another important list you should make should consist of what your marketing or sales topics are going to be. You want to make sure you have the visual content to match your copy. Your photographer should ask you for this so he or she knows what kind of content to create.
Listing out the topics and diving in to your brand identity, helps you think about what outfits you want to wear, props and location for your branding photoshoot. A lot of my clients work with graphic designers who create an entire branding look for their website that includes fonts, colors, logos, etc. Always share this with your photographer, it helps them understand your brand more and will foster ideas on location, props and outfits for your session. My number one resource for renting out location (not necessary if you are shooting outdoors or your space works great), is PEERSPACE.
