Del Mar Canyon Reserve Family Photos | ND
As a San Diego family photographer, I love when clients propose a new location for me to shoot at. Sometimes we get stuck in our favorite locations and forget that San Diego has so many locations to offer! In these Del Mar Canyon Reserve Family Photos | ND suggested this spot just north of Torrey Pines beach, right before Del Mar. If you drive too fast you miss it. It’s a beautiful spot that gives you backdrops of the Torrey Pines trail and beach! From a photo perspective, you get more light than you would if you shot at some of the spots on the trails. Parking is a little tighter, so always make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get situated before your family portrait session.

As you can see from the photos, there are still a lot of flowers! These were taken mid July, so it’s pretty rare that there would be so many flowers left. It all depends on the weather that year for spring. If it’s not too sunny and warm, then you have higher chanced of the bloom staying alive longer. This day was also overcast, so we started earlier than sunset time. I always start two hours earlier if it’s going to be overcast. You don’t want to shoot at “magic hour” when it’s overcast because your photos will get too dark. It’s ok if it’s one person because you can go wide on your aperture, but not when there are multiple people. You risk someone being blurry when the aperture is too wide.

The ground here is dusty, so I would stay away from suede or velvet. Anything that can get sticky with dust. Definitely bring a blanket for sitting shots so you don’t get your clothes dusty too. Don’t be scared to wear neutrals, as you can see with this family they knocked it out of the park!
