As a San Diego grad portrait photographer, the spring season is full of grad portrait sessions! Flowers are blooming, weather is getting warmer and students are graduating! Whether you are graduating from undergrad or graduate program, your hard work definitely deserves to be recognized! What better way to remember this time than with a grad portrait session. It’s a great goal to have after finishing all of your papers and exams! A way to unwind before your actual graduation day! You defintely don’t want to book your grad session on graduation day. The sooner you book right after getting your cap and gown the better! As the days go on, campus will be more crowded with other students getting their photo taken. I highly recommend weekdays for sessions. Earlier in the week is always ideal versus later in the week or the weekend. Plan your outfits ahead of time! Don’t assume all of your photos will be in cap and gown, unless you want them to be of course. Your photographer will give you lots of options with your outfit. You can start full cap and gown with stols, and then you can wear the gown open. The layers start to peel off till you get to your outfit. If you are worried about your hair, don’t feel obliged to wear the cap. You can just hold it.
Many grad students take the opportunity to have their headshot taken while in the session. You are about to start your career and your LinkedIn profile is going to need an updated photo. So make sure you bring a shirt/jacket/blazer/blouse/dress or whatever you prefer to wear so you don’t miss out on that! Make sure to let your photographer know what industry you are going in. It helps give them an idea on the feel of the headshot.
