As a San Diego family photographer, it’s exciting to get first time family photo clients. It’s such a special time in their lives where they get to document their growing family! You can do it as a newborn family session or at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or at a year old. All up to you! You can even do it multiple times in a year as they do change a lot in their first year. In these Los Peñasquitos Ranch House Family Photos | S + J had their first family shoot with their adorable daughter! This location makes you feel the nature of San Diego. We got a touch of the fall foliage season!
When brainstorming ideas on what to wear for your family portrait session, consider using just three colors. Pick three colors that work well with everyone in your family and amongst themselves. You can then choose within different shades of those colors. If patterns are being considered, I would suggest just one person out of every 4 people use a pattern. If too many family members are using prints, it starts to get busy and distracting to look at. If two little kids wear a pattern, that is ok too. It’s always important to lay the outfits out together so you can see how they look together. I would recommend doing this BEFORE the session!
Most families tend to book in the morning when they have a little one. If possible, I would try to push for sunset. The lighting is just so special at sunset. Unless you can get ready early in the morning, I would try my best to make sunset work. Fall’s daylight savings affects kids nap schedules, so it can get challenging to make the adjustment. It’s definitely worth it though!
