Laguna Beach Family Photos | J + W

As a San Diego family photographer, I get inquiries from families visiting Orange County who would enjoy family photos. Usually it’s families on vacation, either in Laguna Beach or Newport Beach. Like San Diego, Laguna Beach has a gorgeous coastline as well! With rocks and white sands, turquoise waters! It’s obvious why it’s a destination for many families. My favorite beach to photograph at in the OC is Aliso Beach. It has easy parking, bathrooms and even has a cafe! So for out- of- towners, it’s reassuring that they have those amenities nearby. Especially when they have little ones! In these Laguna Beach Family Photos | J + W brought their twins to the beach for the first time! Making memories with their little ones in the water and toes in the sand was priceless for them!

The beauty of this beach are the rocks, Spanish moss and the reefs. Knowing this, it is imperative to confirm a family portrait session when sunset or morning is at low tide. The surf can get a little rough at high tide so it is not ideal to shoot during that time. I always make sure to work around the tide schedule in order to reap the benefits of this location. These backdrops give lots of texture and beauty to the photos. Plus, gives the kids something to play with and be distracted. This makes for great candid shots!

When booking your beach family session, make sure to pick out the outfits ahead of time. For you and your kids. I would even go so far as suggesting to pick two outfits. Kids love the water, well most kids, and they will want to run to the waves. Should they get sandy or wet, it’s a great idea to have a back up outfit that stay within the palette to avoid messy clothes. Same for yourself. When you pick up the kids, with their sandy feet, they will most likely get you sandy too. Bring a towel or a spare top. Better to be prepared!
