La Jolla Windansea Proposal Photos | V + Z

As a La Jolla engagement photographer, chances are the proposal is happening on or near a beach 🙂 It’s the picturesque romantic backdrop for a very special moment in a couples life. This is why it is important to coordinate so that the proposal happens when low tide is at or near sunset. This isn’t so crucial if you are shooting at a beach like mission beach or Coronado beach. Those beaches have plenty of sand in that a high tide should not affect having a beach. Sometimes Mission Beach does get affected when there is a king high tide. I am referring more to beaches with reefs like anywhere coastal in La Jolla such as Windansea, La Jolla Cove or Scripps Beach. In these La Jolla Windansea Proposal Photos | V + Z had a beautiful sunset when a tide that was going low.

They day was a bit overcast with the horizon showing some promising sunshine. I don’t mind some cloud coverage as long as we can push the session up an hour or two. Usually a sunset session happens one hour before sunset, or what is referred to as “golden hour” or “magic hour”. When there is overcast weather, I like to start two to three hours before sunset. This ensure you still have light. If it’s heavy dense fog then you may want to reconsider the session although I love a good moody ambiance.

What I love about this light is that the couple doesn’t have to worry about having direct sunlight into their eyes. You have even light wherever you go outside so you don’t have to worry so much about which direction to shoot. My favorite light is when it’s hazy. Those thing feathery clouds work like a natural soft box and makes everyones skin look amazing!
