La Jolla Scripps Beach Maternity Photos | O + D
As a La Jolla maternity photographer, I love when I get an element of surprise during the session! What started out as a babymoon maternity photoshoot, turned into a proposal and engagement session! Her reaction was priceless! Elated! It was tricky to time it right, to make sure there were no people walking under the pier at the time. We succeeded and it was so worth it! Such a beautiful moment and the glow continued throughout this entire La Jolla Scripps Beach Maternity Photos | O + D. A photo session they will never forget! The UCSD Scripps pier is a spot where I would like to do more proposals, but it’s too nerve wracking to get the timing perfect.

What made it easier and possible in this situation, is that I could be present. The shoot was intended for maternity so I didn’t have to hide. I simply was engaging in the session as normal, then when I saw that there was a long pause with no people coming by. I set her up in the position that I had mentioned I would do when it was time. The weather being overcast, and a little cold, helped lower the crowds at the beach too. I’ve done this before in the summer, at least it was the morning, but it was hectic! Here, I could breathe and take my time, but not too much time as I am sure he wanted to pop the question ASAP!

If you have a session booked on an overcast day, don’t fret. If your photographer hasn’t already reached out to bump up the start time to your session, you should certainly ask if it’s possible. Overcast weather isn’t a total let down. If you start earlier it should work out fine with the light. You just don’t want to shoot in overcast weather when it’s supposed to be ‘magic hour’ light because then it will get very dark and gray. But if you start at least an hour before magic hour, so two hours before sunset, it should all be ok.
