La Jolla Scripps Beach Engagement Photos | V + L
As a La Jolla engagement photographer, I am always keen on a beach engagement session! There are so many beautiful beaches to choose along the La Jolla coastline! They only thing you need to be mindful of is the tide. If the tide is high during your photo session, there is a slight chance parts of the beach are inaccessible. So double check the tide calendar with your desired shoot date. The ideal is to have low tide at or near sunset. Scripps Beach is one of my top choices! When it’s low tide, its magical beauty is seen. You have a whole area north of the pier with tide pools and rocks. You have the famous Scripps Pier! And you have great view from up top the beach. We had a mixture or clouds and sunshine, but were able to get a few of those dreamy sun flare photos. The tide was high, something we couldn’t work around because they were only in town a couple days. We made it work though, and we had some rocks that were exposed that we could use to give some texture. Those rocks are only exposed some parts of the year, so that will vary. Luckily it worked in our favor this time.
I get asked a lot what to wear for a session on the beach. My go to colors for the beach are blues, light blues, denim, reds, pinks and white. As you can see here, the white looks nice and they did a great job not to make it to matchy matchy. Always keep in mind that session on the beach is most likely going to have you barefoot. So make sure to coordinate your looks with that in mind. So if a dress is too long that you are stepping on it, I would get it hemmed. Shorts are always a great idea so you don’t have to worry about getting the pant legs wet.
