La Jolla Cove Proposal Photos | C + T
As a La Jolla proposal photographer, 9 times out of 10, you are going to receive inquiries for a beach proposal. Not much of a shocker with the beautiful coastline that we have here in San Diego! So much so, that sometimes we squeeze in two different beaches in one session! Sometimes for aesthetics, other times due to the high tide. This is SUPER important when doing beach sessions. Always check the tide calendar!!! Learn about tides, sometimes a summer tide is higher than the same size tide in winter. This happens because seasons affect the sand on the beach. Summer you see more sand on the beach and piled up more, winter there is less sand, more rocks exposed. In these La Jolla Cove Proposal Photos | C + T opted for a more private beach for the proposal portion and then headed to the Cove for more portraits to be taken.
The water is bluer than what it usually looks like in a sunset session. The reason is because due to other events planned for the engagement, the shoot had to start in the late afternoon instead of early evening, or magic hour. Of course we all want to shoot during golden hour because the sun isn’t as strong and harsh, but you don’t always get to choose the time. You need to be prepared to work at all times of the day. That is challenging at the beach as there is no shade, but you learn to get creative!
Another reason why I like La Jolla Cove if I know I have to deal with strong light, is because they have nearby trees and shaded area to sneak off too for some photos. If you are looking for deep blue ocean color then you should opt for a morning session (if you are on the west side) up until late afternoon. Once the sun gets low and closer to the horizon, it brightens the ocean which is why its lighter blues.
