La Jolla Cove Family Photos | J + P
As a La Jolla family photographer, I can’t get enough of it’s beautiful coastline! When a client requests a beach shoot in La Jolla, La Jolla Cove is definitely one that I always suggest. You get a variety of backdrops. Greenery, turquoise waters (on a sunny day), stone wall, palm trees, and white sandy beaches! For the most part, it is kid friendly and stroller friendly. When accessing the sandy beaches, you will have to leave the stroller at the top of the stairs, unless you can carry it down the stairs. If you are doing a family shoot with young kids, I would work around their sleeping schedule. Normally sessions are booked around sunset time, but if your kids will be more happy in the morning, then I would opt for a morning session.
Booking a beach session, plan on getting your feet wet! If you are with a toddler, then plan on getting your clothes wet! I would definitely pack a back up outfit, if you get wet too fast. Or a post shoot outfit so you don’t get cold. Speaking of outfits, I would definitely wait until you arrive at your shoot location before putting on the clothes you picked out for your little ones. Car rides can cause a spill and you don’t want to stress about dirty clothes!
When choosing outfits, I would make sure you have tired them on already. This means you have given yourself some time to choose and you are not scrambling last minute to put something together. Photoshoots are something to be excited for and have fun at. You don’t want to be nervous wondering if your outfit that you picked out five minutes ago will work out. Help yourself by allocating some time to wardrobe selection.
