As a La Jolla family photographer, I love photographing at La Jolla Cove. This beautiful coastline boasts beautiful cliffs, turquoise waters, palm trees and depending on the season, lots of beautiful flowers! What I love most about it, is that even on high tides, you can still utilize all the rocks and cliff areas to get your ocean backdrops. At extreme high tides, you most likely will not get your toes in the sand. But you will definitely have ocean backdrops! If you want toes in the sand, I would suggest other beaches like Scripps Beach, Mission Beach, or Coronado Beach. When booking your San Diego family photo session at the beach, be prepared to get your feet wet! If you have a sunset session, I would always pack an extra pair of clothes to change into after the session in case you get too wet during the session. When you are with little kids who want to play in the water, there is a high chance you are chasing behind them into the water! If you prefer not to sit in the sand, then I would bring a neutral color towel to sit on.
When you are preparing for your family photoshoot looks, I would alway suggest to choose 3 colors and stay within that palette. You can choose outfits with different shades of those three colors. I would have 1 person out of 4 to use a print. So for every 4 or 5 people, once can use a print. Too many people wearing prints get a little busy and distracting. It’s always a good idea to lay out the outfits over a table to see how they flow. You can always ask your photographer for feedback!
