As an Encinitas landscape photographer, I love working with Soil + Sea. They have the most amazing projects and the most beautiful homes! They never cease to amaze me with their creative work! When it comes to landscape design, it is very helpful to have visuals to show clients what they can have or at least get things started. These photos help brand their company as luxury landscape. When shooting landscape photos, I bring my 24mm, just in case. I do stick with my prime lenses though whenever possible. I shoot sunset into dusk. This helps highlight the lighting system that Soil and Sea uses. They want to show clients how their outdoor living looks in the daylight and nighttime. In order to capture that in one session, we shoot right before sunset into dusk/ blue hour. If you don’t offer lighting, then you can shoot at any time of the day. However, you do want to keep all the lighting the same, so you don’t want to shoot an area where there is harsh light and shade. So early morning or sunset is ideal. Unless it’s overcast, then there is no worry for harshness.
Before I start shooting, Kasey shows me the property and highlights everything they have done. He makes sure to blow dry and clean up the area so there aren’t leaves around or dirt on the stairs. He prepared the property as much as he can. Sometimes we have to shoot a property more than once when the plants still need some growing/filling in, or the season has changed the color of the plants.
