Balboa Park Japanese Friendship Garden Engagement Photos | V + K
As a San Diego engagement photographer, I get to photograph a lot of proposals! I get those same excitement nerves as the one proposing! It’s so exciting to be a part of this momentous event in a couples life! To make it go as smooth as possible, it’s always important to prep with the one proposing ahead of time. In these Balboa Park Japanese Friendship Garden Engagement Photos | V + K pulled off a flawless proposal! Even with remodeling going on at the Japanese Friendship Garden, we were still able to get THE SHOT! Located at Balboa Park, the Japanese Friendship Garden is your go to for greenery year round! You do get a little bit of seasons, with changing of the leaves in the fall. And of course, the cherry blossom festival in the spring!

To ease the nerves of your client, the one who is proposing, it’s imperative you either have a walk thru on site or a phone call before the day of the proposal. The closer to the proposal date the better. Of course if they are traveling and are with their partner, you might have to have the call a few days before. You want to discuss the excuse of how they are getting their partner there, and positioning during the proposal. You want to make sure that your client has come up with a clever excuse for their partner to make sure that they are properly dressed and ready for a photoshoot! You don’t want to spring this to the completely blind.

If you would like to propose at the Japanese Friendship Garden, there are two ways. You can either rent out the place an hour before opening or you can get a permit during park hours. The latter is more affordable at $50. The permit does have to get requested day of shoot. I suggest asking your photographer to get there before you, I would say thirty minutes before, to request the permit. This way they can do it with enough time to get down to the bottom of the garden and set up before you arrive. The permit is on an hourly basis.
