San Diego Courthouse Wedding Photos | Hannah + David

With all the wedding changes due to COVID-19, many couples have opted for a civil wedding. I AM LOVING IT! As a San Diego wedding photographer, I am so lucky to have the San Diego County Administrator building located by the marina. This is the actual building you get married in, not the courthouse in downtown, even though everyone refers to it as a courthouse wedding.

If you notice, there are 2 different ceremony scenarios in these wedding photos. The majority are of the “Marriage Hut” ceremony. With COVID-19 precautions, the ceremony is taking place outdoors, outside the building, not at the normal arch. This was as of last month. Not to worry though, the arch is still there and you are welcomed to go take photos there afterwards and that is what we did. A mock ceremony in front of the arch.

I usually shoot the family portraits next to the archway by the palm trees but the sun was so bright I didn’t want everyone squinting. I quickly changed location ideas (originally we were going to do the treeline pathway next to the marriage hut) and opted for the staircase as I love the reflection of the palm trees reflecting in the window.

This was a morning ceremony, but with all the different trees at the San Diego County Administrator building there is always a way to diffuse the sunlight. I always let me clients know that even though their ceremony time may be scheduled at a particular time, if they would rather have that magic hour light, we can always schedule the portrait session for later in the day.

Every time I shoot at the San Diego Courthouse, I always find a new corner to photograph! It never gets old! I am always truly excited to shoot a courthouse wedding!

We finished the wedding portrait session across the street at the marina.
