Scripps Beach Maternity Photos | Imani + Chris

As a San Diego maternity photographer, I love the excitement that comes with expecting a baby! Getting to capture that for families to cherish forever is truly a privilege!! In these Scripps Beach Maternity photos | Imani + Chris were visiting from Arizona and enjoying their baby moon! What is a baby moon you may wonder? It’s when parents take a little vacation to relax and get ready to welcome the new baby! Can’t think of a better idea to prepare for non stop baby action!

The weather was very fickle and was overcast most of the time. There were a few minutes where the sun shined through and I made sure to get those romanic photos captured! Having overcast weather isn’t always a bad thing. When it’s in the evening though, is when it can get tricky because it’s already naturally getting dark so you loose light faster. Always make sure your subject is facing where the light should be. Really push the aperture on your lens so you can use as much natural light as possible.

I am a huge fan of long flowy dresses for maternity shoots. I like for my subjects to move around and play with the dress. This helps to get great candid shots! Amazon has so many dresses to choose from and some where the front of the belly is exposed too. You can also have your client wear a bikini too! PinkBlush has beautiful dresses too, especially if you want some fitted, long train ones. Always make sure your client feels comfortable and confident in what they choose to wear. Have them opt for solids or florals, lace is always a romantic plus!

If you do encounter low light or overcast situation you can definitely enhance the photos in post production. When editing you can add warmth to your photos or add some light leaks. This helps to mimic the sunset and sunlight. I normally do like my photos to be on the moody side, so I didn’t mind the clouds but I did want to add some warmth too.
